This album is starting to see massive popularity abroad after the airing of the 'Conchords HBO special and an appearance on the Conan O'Brien in the States and on the back of their current six part BBC Radio show.
Describing themselves as "New Zealand's 4th most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo" Flight of The Conchords are comprised of Jemaine Clements (also a member of the comedy duo "Humourbeast") and Bret McKenzie (aka. Video Kid and member of the Black Seeds), and although the humour has a distinct kiwi flavour (check out "Bus Driver's Song"), their clever combination of humour and song gives it an obvious universal appeal which has seen them playing sold out shows here and appearing at prestigious international festivals such The Edinburgh Fringe and the Vancouver International Comedy Festival as well as the aforementioned TV appearances.
"Folk The World" is a live album recorded at the The Classic in Auckland and Wellington's Bats theatre (except for two bonus studio tracks including "Frodo" - their "rejected Lord of the Rings theme song"), and captures the duo in top form, often improvising scetches as they go. The whole album is a hoot from start to finish, but if i was forced to choose highlights, i would say "K.I.S.S.I.N.G", "Albi" (a childrens song about a racist dragon!), "Mermaid" and my personal fave "Bowie", a side-splitting pastiche of Bowie in his space-obsessed Ziggy phase. Hilarious, Essential and thoroughly Recommended listening!
